I think the idea that we have to accept the anger of the MAGA voters because they won is very telling. Because they will NEVER not be angry. Just like Dear Leader. Many of them are incapable of feeling a wider range of emotion that sheer anger. It will NEVER end. Because even when Orange Shitler's tax cuts, tariffs, budget cuts make it clear to them what morons they have been, the anger will just get worse. And SOMEHOW, they will find a way to blame us. You know, the elites. And they can simply fuck all the way off!
Reminds me of the Brexit vote. I read somewhere that the day after, people in the UK were googling “what’s brexit?”. Don’t know how true that is, but it kind of tracks.
I have a couple of British friends who have said that people voted and THEN tried to understand what it was they voted for or against. Both of them were anti-Brexit and definitely frustrated and angry. One suddenly had to leave Sweden because he could not get a residency permit. No more EU, no more ability to live and work in an EU country without applying for a permit.
Oh it'll be great fun to watch the party of "personal responsibility and accountability" spin and spin as they try to find a way to STILL blame Democrats, even as they control all three branches of government. 🤦🏼
They definitely will, it'll just be interesting to say the least to hear their exact (t)reasoning - "Sure we have a unilateral majority all across the government and the tariffs and deportations were all our party's idea, but it's STILL Biden(and/or Obama/Democrats In General)'s Fault because - because - because..."
Thank you for writing this in the strongest possible terms. My parents insist that the New York Times is still an excellent source of news and they can’t understand why I disagree
The Times actually seemed to go pretty hard in the last week of the campaign, perhaps spooked by the massive backlash the Post faced. But it was way too little, way too late. And the second Trump won they went back to normalizing him.
Interesting no trad media ever wrote a story about how those people need to understand progressives.. how angry they are and how the winner needs to be gentle their feels.. nope. We need to understand them! Got it. WaPo saysays f us and our feels
Yeah, I’ve always thought that strange. How many essays have you seen over the past 10 yrs of reporters visiting rural Waffle Houses around the country to find so-called “forgotten, left-behind, white men” to understand their anger compared to essays about anyone else who’s angry and is NOT voting against their own and everyone else’s interests?
The honest answer is that they probably feel like they understand the liberal perspective well enough. And in some sense, they're right.
But they're also not right, in that while they understand the mindset of the engaged, college educated, news-consuming liberal, they don't understand most Democratic voters, who don't see the same world that major media reporters and people who read political substacks for fun see.
I was struck by in the early part of the year, when Trump and Biden both had favorability hovering around 40%, there was plenty of time to cover Trump's enthusiastic supporters - but you would have thought Biden had no enthusiastic supporters at all.
Why didn't they come to my diner to ask why I continue to believe in democracy, the rule of law, and not awarding corrupt felons with our highest office??
"Interesting no trad media ever wrote a story about how those people need to understand progressives.. how angry they are and how the winner needs to be gentle their feels.. nope."
What's crazy is that they LITERALLY CAN'T understand us.
Like, we say words, and they don't know what we mean by what we're saying, because they don't understand the language, or concepts being discussed, well enough. That's why it was so easy for them to dismiss everything Kamala Harris said, because she was a woman, and thus couldn't have possibly been talking above their heads - it was "word salad."
Trump speaks at a fourth grade level. Honestly, that is something Democrats should try to emulate.
I really appreciate hearing your perspective and colorful language. It gives me permission to laugh at the horror and yet avoid feeling the anger. Justin, you are family but funnier.
Hear hear.. 1000%. What WaPo and MSM want us to disregard is the truth that Rump “won” because he’s YT.. he’s rich… and he’s male. He also represents the WhiteAngloSaxonProtestantStr8tMale lust to maintain control and power worldwide. The browning of America scares the shit out of the YT power structure so they enabled tRump to “right the ship” and turn back the clock as much as able to prevent any further potential progress made by the “Other”. They backed the Heritage Foundation/ Project2025 agenda 100% and exalt this supremely flawed piece of man to shepherd it into reality. They pulled out all the stops.. including utilizing MSM and media billionaires to sanewash a man who literally mimed giving fallitio on TV. That is how assured he was that the election was in the bag for him.. and hewas well informed. Media response.. crickets. They even went so far as to give Russia inroads to the destruction of our American experiment. We all watched the denigration of America in real time. But blve and know that some people are wide eyed and celebrating all of the atrocities and the end of democracy. They would rather that than have to share equal power with POC and women.. both of whom they deem unworthy of a bigger seat at the table. I am not in the least bit surprised that the wealthiest down to the poorest of Americans were so easily convinced to vote against their own self interests. This is Amerikkka.. RCST at inception and down to it’s core. Accept it and know that it will get worse before it gets better.. if it ever does. I am clear eyed and bracing for the “leopard to start eating people’s face” portion to begin. Let all of the pending atrocities come and so be it. POC have a saying…”those who don’t listen will feel” I hate that those of us who didn’t vote for this will suffer as well. When shit hits the fan… and it will.. I will offer my thoughts and prayers.
Totally agree! Yet, still I see people writing that we have to “understand” and worse, “create unity” with these garbage people. As the kids would say, “da fuq?!” As I say, GTFOH. I have zero interest in understanding or hanging out with these people. I’ve already dumped lovers, friends and family members over their monstrous choices.
Also there's famous quote from Lincoln's Cooper Union address. It was about the south (same thing i guess now) and how they will not rest until the whole country not just agrees with them but actively supports their plans.
". . . what will convince them? This, and this only: cease to call slavery wrong, and join them in calling it right. And this must be done thoroughly - done in acts as well as in words. Silence will not be tolerated - we must place ourselves avowedly with them.
" [A] new sedition law must be enacted and enforced, suppressing all declarations that slavery is wrong, whether made in politics, in presses, in pulpits, or in private. We must arrest and return their fugitive slaves with greedy pleasure. We must pull down our Free State constitutions. The whole atmosphere must be disinfected from all taint of opposition to slavery, before they will cease to believe that all their troubles proceed from us."
We will get articles like WaPo feeds us. They want us to actively laud the people we loathe. Otherwise it's all our fault. See what we made them do??!
Every word you wrote is sooo true. Can you even imagine them doing a series of articles about how maga voters need to understand the anger of democratic voters? And they start listing all the lost rights in republican states, the mixing of religion and State, the danger of an authoritarian state backed by billionaires, the gobbling of resources and lack of concern for the environment we all have to live in. It actually sounds hilarious for there to ever be any thought to why people don’t vote for republicans. Thanks for the sanity in an insane world Justin.
There is a national rationalization going on. Harris lost because; she was too extreme, too moderate, Anti - Semitic, supported genocide of Gaza, the economy, inflation, cackled, not experienced enough, too much of a Washington insider, was forced on us...etc., etc., etc. We, as a nation and as a political party if you are a Democrat, refuse to follow Occam's Razor, which given the plethora of contradictory reasons offered makes it more likely the reason Kamala Harris lost was her sex and her race. Don't like? Doesn't matter. Want to refute it? Do so in a way that is not contradictory. A WAPO opinion writer had the temerity to write the phrase "ideal candidate" referring to Trump and Harris. It is ridiculous and literally insane to use that phrase and somehow suggest Harris was lacking in comparison Trump. She lost because of misogyny and racism.
I cancelled mine after they did not endorse Harris! This really told me who they are and what they are about. Fortunately I’ve never gotten sucked into the Amazon universe, so there is that. I’m retired so I have a bit more time to research companies that are morally aware. But none of them are perfect is the end conclusion, it’s typically the lesser of 2 evils I’ve discovered.
I gave up on WaPo in mid 2023 after seeing the continuing positive stories about Trump. It was just too f-ing much then. It is so much worse now that they have been purging any liberal voices from their opinion pages and bringing in more and more Rightwing apologists.
I think the idea that we have to accept the anger of the MAGA voters because they won is very telling. Because they will NEVER not be angry. Just like Dear Leader. You know, the elites. And they can simply fuck all the way off!
Exactly. Why didn’t we let them know what a tariff is? Why didn’t we let them know how everything works? 🙄
Harris tried. But honestly, the fact that they didn’t bother to do a google search BEFORE the election speaks volumes.
Reminds me of the Brexit vote. I read somewhere that the day after, people in the UK were googling “what’s brexit?”. Don’t know how true that is, but it kind of tracks.

There you have it. The US has competition over which country has the most ignorant voters.

💯% certain they will blame Democrats. They don’t have a large repertoire.

Agree. I gave up on NYT, but I will give them credit for actually endorsing Harris.

I think the further dumbing down of the US populace is a bad idea.

Me too. And good riddance to all of them.

Grew up reading about the Pravda propaganda in the USSR. Never dreamed we would experience it, but here we are.
There is a national rationalization going on. 250,000 subscribers cancelled after the non endorsement as well.
Hope they don’t come back.
This one won’t.
I cancelled WAPO months ago after a BS article both siding the candidates.
I don’t miss it.
I think I understand them all too well.

Good News: there is no way 47 is going to last another 4 years.
Bad News: that leaves us staring down a Hillbilly Eulogy regime.
