The Tesla Terrorist: Fascism's Obsession With Being The Eternal Fucking Victim

I’m back from taking time off from the news. It wasn’t easy to stay off of my phone and away from my computer. I’m not accustomed to tuning out the news for prolonged periods of time that do not involve me sleeping. But I mostly did and it’s going to take me a few days to catch up on what’s been going on these past several days.

But before I spend hours and hours gobbling up a week-plus worth of news, I wanted to bring your attention to the fucking moron who killed himself and blew up his rented idiotmobile Cybertruck.

You heard about this dipshit, yes?

Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old Green Beret from Colorado Springs, Colorado, also wrote in notes he left on his cellphone that he needed to “cleanse” his mind “of the brothers I’ve lost and relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took.” Livelsberger served in the Army since 2006 and deployed twice to Afghanistan.

“This was not a terrorist attack, it was a wake up call. Americans only pay attention to spectacles and violence. What better way to get my point across than a stunt with fireworks and explosives,” Livelsberger wrote in one letter found by authorities and released Friday.

Normally, I would not be so flippant, much less overtly hostile, to a veteran committing suicide. I’m not a military-worshipping flag-humper but I am aware that combat takes its toll on the troops and we do them dirty when they get home. Whether you think America is an evil empire or the world’s police,¹ the fact remains that the people who sign up for military service should not be left to fend for themselves when they return. They deserve better from us and we do not hold up our end of the bargain. That’s a disgrace.

On the other hand, there was this:

He also advocated a Jan. 6-like takeover of federal buildings and the ouster of Democrats from government and the military.

“Try peaceful means first, but be prepared to fight to get the Dems out of the fed government and military by any means necessary,” he wrote. “They all must go and a hard reset must occur for our country to avoid collapse.”

“Fellow Servicemembers, Veterans and all Americans, TIME TO WAKE UP! We are being led by weak and feckless leadership who only serve to enrich themselves,” Matthew Livelsberger wrote on one of two iPhones retrieved from the vehicle, in what police call two letters and a journal detailing his preparations in the 10 days leading up to his suicide.

Yeah…I feel just awful there’s one less MAGA fascist terrorist in the world. Oh, and he was also a racist, misogynist, and a traitor:

Livelsberger urges the nation to rally around Trump and Elon Musk, and calls for a negotiated settlement in Ukraine.

“Focus on strength and winning. Masculinity is good and men must be leaders. Strength is a deterrent and fear is the product,” he wrote.

“Stop obsessing over diversity,” he added. “We are all diverse and DEI is a cancer. Thankfully we rejected the DEI candidate and will have a real President instead of Weekend at Bernie’s.”

So, fuck this guy. Not even slightly sorry he’s dead and I’m glad he was so incompetent in his terrorism that he didn’t kill a single person other than his worthless self.

OK, here’s the thing. Today is January 6th. It’s been four years since thousands of racist assholes attacked the Capitol to murder Democrats and Mike Pence in order to stop Joe Biden from becoming president. They did this not just because Trump told them to but because they believe, in their heart of hearts, that they are the victim of a grand conspiracy to…what? Oppress them? Go fuck yourselves, you miserable losers.

It’s really important to remember that the January 6th terrorists were not poor or homeless or suffering, driven to action out of desperation. They were doctors and business owners and nepo babies and they were almost all quite well-off. They had money and status and a secure financial future.

What they DIDN’T have was a future where they were guaranteed the white power and privilege they were promised by Trump. That is what drove them to a murderous rage and it’s clear it’s what pushed the Tesla Terrorist over the edge. Just the idea that Those People might still someday have a voice was so intolerable, this fucking moron killed himself and tried to blow up a bunch of innocents. He wanted to be a martyr to kick off a purge of the people he hated: Us. You and me.

But…why? Didn’t his side just win? Isn’t Trump about to become president? Aren’t Republicans in control of the House and the Senate and the Supreme Court and more than half of the states?

Why kill yourself in despair when you just won?

Did the Tesla Terrorist (seriously, I refuse to use his name unless it’s in a paragraph I’m quoting from another source) understand how flimsy Trump’s win is? Did this dumbass understand how much trouble Republicans are in for the midterms unless they successfully overthrow democracy in the next two years? Was the last thing that went through his brain, other than a bullet, a lament over how all Republicans have to run in 2028 are a couch fucking weirdo, a Florida fascist whose human meat suit constantly malfunctions, and Trump himself? Trump, who will be 82 in 2028 and a drooling vegetable after he strokes out sometime in the next 4 years?²

I feel like the Cybertruck Crispy Creep didn’t actually understand any of that at all. Rather, even though his team had just won everything, he still couldn’t stop seeing himself as a victim because that is the core of fascism: Perpetual victimhood. It’s the fuel that justifies all of their rage and violence.

I’ll bet you a shiny nickel right now that Trump’s inauguration speech will be all about how, despite having literally all of the power, a full trifecta, he is the victim. And so are Republicans.

The right controls everything in Washington and they will still whine and bitch and moan about how they’re being oppressed. The legacy media is bending the knee and fellating Trump on a daily basis and the calls to punish them will not stop for a second.

Will Musk actually sue people who write unflattering headlines about his truck designed by a 5-year-old? Doubtful. But he doesn’t have to. He just has to threaten it and so does Trump. And they will continue to do it because it works.

But even as they abuse their power, Musk, Trump, Fox, and all the rest of the fascists of the right will continue to whine about how oppressed and persecuted they are. They can’t stop. They’ll never stop. They NEED to view themselves as victims at all times and, more importantly, they need us to accept this framing, especially the legacy press.

The second they stop being the victim, they have to take responsibility. For everything they do. Fuck, for ANYTHING they do. The laws they pass hurting women and children and the trans community and Blacks and everyone they hate? Republicans are always “forced” to pass those laws because of this bullshit story or that bullshit lie. Always something “forcing” them to be cruel and hateful.

Their embrace of fascism and misogyny and white nationalism? They were “forced” to do it by bla bla who fucking cares bla. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian of the “progressive”³ TYT network are licking the boots of MAGAland right now. Their excuse? They were “forced” out of the left by bla bla who fucking cares bla.

None of these assholes can admit they’re doing what they always wanted to do. they can’t say this is who they always were. They can’t, heaven fucking forbid, take an ounce of responsibility for their actions. It always has to be someone else’s fault. Someone else’s responsibility.

Because when nothing is your fault, there is nothing you are not allowed to do. No line you cannot cross. No crime you cannot commit. No violence you cannot perpetrate. That is the core of fascism and that is who they are. Fascism promises you the freedom to be the very worst version of yourself without consequences.

But there are always consequences. If not now, then when fascism falls. And when it does, because it always does, we will come for you and you will pay for the crimes you committed while you were “free.”

So keep playing the victim. Continue your cruelty and evil. Scream, “I was just following orders!” and “But they said it was legal!” and “I’m not a bad person!” None of that will matter when your regime falls and your leaders flee, leaving you to pay for the horrors you so eagerly voted for.

But never forget, you’re the victim, you fascist fucks.
