NYT SHOCKED That Republican "Fiscal Hawks" Are Actually Huge Fucking Liars

40+ years of "gullibility" tells us that the legacy press has been lying to us all along.

I was going to take today off. I really was. Clean the bathroom. Read a book. Watch some anime. Work on some D&D. But then I came across this headline and all of that went out of the window because my blood pressure spiked.

My fucking god. What I would give to live in the alternate dimension the NYT inhabits for just one day. A dimension where the Republican Party isn’t a pack of pathological liars and thieves and serial killers and pedophiles? Wow. Must be nice.

But let’s be serious, the New York Fucking Times doesn’t live in that dimension, either. They know exactly who and what the GOP is. They know who and what they’ve been for over 40 years. They KNOW it.

Are they the party of fiscal responsibility? Do they actually have “fiscal hawk credibility?” Is there a “Republican precedent” for passing budgets that do not blow enormous holes in the deficit?

1. No. 2. No. 3. You would have to have been in a fucking coma since 1950 to say “yes” and since Alan Rappeport, the author of this bit of propaganda is younger than me, he knows the answer as well as I do: A screaming “HELLLLL NO!”

That means Rappeport is a fucking liar. What?! A writer for the NYT lying about the extremism and dishonesty of the Republican Party? How could such a thing come to pass?!

Bitch, please. That is literally all they do and all they’ve done for decades, especially when it comes to the economy. Look at this cockbite lie through his teeth:

For years, Republicans have warned about the government’s reliance on borrowed money to pay its bills. That stance has often led to standoffs over raising the nation’s borrowing cap, with Republicans insisting that any increase in America’s so-called debt limit be paired with spending reductions.

Left unsaid? Republicans only “warn” about deficits when a Democrat is president. When Republicans are in control?

Why do I know this and a well-paid writer for the most well-respected news outlet in the world…doesn’t? Is it a secret? Do I have some dark connections to the deep state that give me the inside scoop? No. Even with my shitty memory, some things stick out and decades of Republicans destroying the economy is one of them.

Perhaps Rappeport was busy reading the horoscopes in the 2000s? His writing has that level of accuracy so maybe?

G.O.P. lawmakers are prepared to push through the debt limit increase with only votes from their party, through a budget process called reconciliation. That is making it harder for Republicans to maintain their fiscal hawk credibility, prompting some resistance from a few lawmakers who have warned that they may not vote for the bill if it includes such a large increase in the borrowing cap.

Credibility. Credibility? What the actual fuck is this asshole talking about? Is he honestly, with a straight face, trying to suggest that Republicans have been fiscally responsible even once in the last 45 years? That they’ve been making good faith arguments about the economy? That they’re honest brokers looking out for the best interests of the American people?

Here are some simple facts that a highly-paid “journalist” like Rappeport should be aware of:

• Ronald Reagan exploded the deficit and raised the debt ceiling eighteen times. That’s so many times, most Republicans wouldn’t bring it across state lines to fuck it.

• George H.W. Bush increased the debt limit four times, only increasing the debt by 48%. H.W. Bush was ALMOST fiscally responsible. And the Republican base hated him for it.

• Bill Clinton? Four times but, hey! He left office with a budget SURPLUS.

• George W. Bush took that surplus and turned it into a $1.5 TRILLION deficit, the largest the country had ever seen. Boy! What a fucking fiscal conservative!

• Barack Obama? In the middle of the worst economic collapse in a century, he cut the deficit in half.

• Trump 1.0 took a $750 billion deficit and showed such amazing fiscal responsibility along with his entire party that we ended 2020 with a $3 TRILLION deficit. A chunk of that was Covid but a lot of it was pork for billionaires. Very fiscally responsible…

• Biden: $1.8 trillion deficit but, curiously, no multi-trillion dollar tax cuts for billionaires and the result of this deficit spending was a booming economy unlike anything this country has seen in over 60 years.

Now, here’s the important bit that Rappeport is lying about and I’ll explain why he’s lying about it in a minute.

Republican “fiscal responsibility” is a myth created by the legacy press. For the last 45 years, they’ve come into office, cut taxes for the rich, crashed the economy, and left a mess for Democrats to clean up. Every Republican president in the last 50 years (and then some) has presided over economic slumps. Democrats? Only when inherited from the Republican moron before them.

As always, I’m just some doofus sitting in his living room in slippers with a cat curled up next to him. Rappeport is a “professional” who has all the resources of a massive news organization at his disposal. Sure is weird how he can’t suss out the basic facts of the economy over the last 45 years.

Oh but wait, he can actually do that. He chose not to.

Why?

It’s really not that complicated. The legacy press has been protecting the Republican Party for decades. They do this by lying to the public about what they do and why they do it.

When Democrats are in power, the press is eager to print as many articles as possible about how “fiscally conservative” the GOP is. When Republicans are in power, the press rarely talk about how profligate they are, pissing money down the drain and giving away trillions to billionaires. Those billionaires then spend OUR fucking money on vanity yachts and private islands instead of investing back into the American economy like Republicans swear they will. No jobs created. No business started. Just money drained and hidden away in offshore accounts.

Republican “fiscal hawk credibility” is an invention of the press to shield the party from the wrath of the public. By fabricating this illusion, the average American imagines Republicans to be more capable of handling the economy and thus are more likely to vote for them.

If the public were given the honest facts about how reckless and stupid Republicans are, they would never let them near the levers of power again. That’s the game the legacy press plays.

This is one of the many reasons why they could not let Kamala Harris win. She represented an existential threat to the fiction of Republican fiscal responsibility and, conversely, Democratic irresponsibility, the other fiction crafted and sold by a lying press.

Joe Biden had created the strongest economy in over 60 years. The foundations were so solid that even as other parts of the world struggled, our economy alone pulled up global growth. Eight years of Harris building on that would have been glorious for the American public but terrible for the billionaires and even worse for the myth that only Republicans are the proper stewards of the economy.

Unacceptable. The lie has to be maintained at all costs. Once the mask is pulled down and the truth revealed? That Republicans deliberately destroy the economy every single time they have power? The only platform they’ll have left is racism and that’s not enough. The fiction of fiscal responsibility is critical to give independents and moderates an excuse to vote for them. Reality, as always, is toxic for the GOP. The legacy press has worked for decades to preserve their legitimacy and they’ll be goddamned if they’ll let something as crass as “truth” get in the way of their work.

Never forget who brought us to this point and how it happened. Republicans embraced fascism but they needed the legacy press to whitewash and normalize it. When this is over, and it WILL be over, there needs to be a reckoning with the collaborators. All of them.
