For Thanksgiving, Carve Trump Voters Out Of Your Life Forever (Ogre Edition)

Democracy did not die in November of 2024 but the assholes have their knives out and it's up to us to keep them from their bloody work. Despair and surrender are what they want. Resistance is what they’ll get. Stay strong. We beat the fascists once and we’ll fucking do it again.

For the last several years, I have made the argument around the holidays that you should treat your Trump-voting relatives and friends like dogshit on the bottom of your shoe. But with less respect. At least fecal matter serves a function in the grand scheme of the universe. What the fuck are MAGAts good for except maybe to teach children how to avoid pedophiles and cultists?

Even after Trump lost in 2020 (and before he tried to violently overthrow the country like the sore losing baby he is), I made the case that there should be no attempt at reconciliation. These were soulless scumbags who did not deserve a shred of forgiveness. Certainly, nothing in the last four years has changed that.

However, this year, I am making a different argument. I am no longer arguing that you should treat the MAGAts in your life like dirt because they do not deserve to be treated with dignity or compassion. I am warning you to cut these unrepentant assholes out of your life as an urgent matter of self-protection.

There will be two versions of this article. One here in The Opinionated Ogre and one in The Banter because I am making this argument in two distinct ways: The calm and rational way and the other way. This is not the calm and rational way. It’s important to understand that both are valid and you need to decide which one is more persuasive for you. But make no mistake, the time has come to tell these people to go fuck themselves forever and then never speak to them again except, perhaps, when you’re standing over their casket, wishing them a speedy journey to hell.

Which Trump voters are we talking about?

OK, we’re not talking about the fucking morons who voted for Trump because they were too fucking stupid to pay attention. You know who I’m talking about:

• The Muslims who think Trump is going to end the war in Gaza because he’s a man of peace. They signed the death warrants of their friends and family in both Gaza and the West Bank.

• The Latinos who think Trump’s mass deportations won’t affect them because they’re “the good ones.” They’re going to discover that white nationalists don’t distinguish between “good” and “bad” Latinos. They ALL have to go. Hence the WHITE in “white nationalist.”

• The REALLY stupid people who think Trump was great for the economy and will cut them a new stimulus check. BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! GOOD LUCK WITH THE COMING TARIFFS AND RECESSION YOU FUCKING IDIOTS! There ain’t gonna BE a stimulus check. And if you live in a red state? You ain’t getting an unemployment check, either. Sucks for you, dumbass.

Now, I don’t entirely blame these people because they were lied to for Four. Fucking. Years. Both the right-wing media and the legacy press lied and lied and lied about just about everything.

Oh, Trump isn’t REALLY going to do Project 2025. And then half of his Cabinet turned out to be the people who wrote it.

Oh, this is the worst economy in decades! Except for inflation being gone for over a year, the job market being stronger than anything in half a century, wages growing, unions on the rise, etc., etc., etc. Still, we could have a recession ANY SECOND now! Or are we already in one? We just don’t know!

Oh, Kamala Harris really spent so much of her campaign on identity politics! How much? Well, we can’t really say because we don’t actually have much video of her talking about it but, trust us! It was a LOT! All the time! Constant! Also, we don’t really have any quotes. But it happened! For sure!

And on and on it goes. A torrent of disinformation fed to people too lazy and too stupid to do more than read headlines and keep casual tabs on something that will affect the rest of their lives. So, no, I am not talking about the zombies that treat politics like a wrestling match, eager for the next thrilling heel turn. They’re a threat to this country but not you, personally.

That threat comes from the loud and proud MAGA voter. The Republicans who voted for Trump every chance they had. These are the people who are an imminent threat to your safety and the safety of those you love. They have told you exactly who they are and you need to believe them.

The Collaborators

You know exactly who these fucks are. Your uncle who won’t shut the fuck up about “This is ‘Murika! Speak Amurikan!” Your creepy neighbor with the gun fetish watching every Black kid walk by his house, dreaming of the day he can kill himself a n*****. You father-in-law who never stops watching Fox News who literally thinks entire cities burned to the ground but gets angry if you ask him to prove it. Your mother who “doesn’t like all that racism” but thinks marriage should be between one man and one woman and doesn’t approve of your son’s “lifestyle.” Your friend from college who rages online about Andrew Tate and how all the whores who won’t sleep with him are gonna get what’s coming to them.

All of them proudly voted for Donald Trump again and again and again. It didn’t matter what Trump did or how shitty he was as president or that he tried to overthrow the government. All of that is “fake news.” He promised them a world where the people they feared and hated would be punished and hurt. He promised them that democracy was over and fascism was the way forward.

They knew who and what they were voting for. They knew that it would hurt you and your loved ones, not in an emotional way, but in a literal, tangible, physical way and they fucking did it anyway. Again and again and again. These are the people you need to protect yourself from immediately.

They will be the collaborators.

What does it mean to be a collaborator in a fascist regime? Exactly what you think it does. These will be the people reporting others to the regime for their “illegal activities.” And what will be illegal? Anything Trump and his clown car of power-tripping fascists say is illegal.

Noah Berlatsky wrote about this right after the election:

Fascism is designed to empower favored groups to police, harass, abuse, and intimidate disfavored groups. People who vote for that are voting to police, harass, abuse, and intimidate disfavored groups. If you are in a disfavored group (which includes opponents of Trump!), then you have a target on you. And the whole point of fascism is to give supporters broad power to fire at that target.

They will not immediately understand what that means. We have not had anything like this since the 1960s and the Red Scare. But they will figure it out quickly enough. Fascists always do.

They will learn that they can destroy the lives of everyone they despise by turning them in for “Un-American activities.” That means you and your gay child. That means you and your FB posts calling Trump a fascist. That means you and your undocumented partner. That means you.

Every Sunday, I look around at the group of girls I dungeon master for. Almost all of them are gay or bi and I wonder how safe they’ll be in a decade. How many of them will be arrested for “perversion” or forced into conversion therapy. Will they just be shipped off to the concentration camps? Will Jordan already be there because he’s autistic? Will I already be there because I’m Jewish?

Which one of my MAGA relatives will rat me out to the regime? Which one of yours will rat you out?

“But they would never do that! That’s insane! They’re my family! My friends! I’ve worked with them for 10 years!”

You’re not listening.

You need to understand this and I mean REALLY fucking understand this down to your bones: These people are not your family. They are not your friends. They are not your co-workers.

They hate you. They hate you and everything about you so much they voted for a man who explicitly promised to hurt you and everything you hold dear in the worst ways possible.

They did not vote for this because of “economic anxiety” or because they wanted a fucking tax cut. They voted for Trump because they wanted to inflict pain and suffering on the tens of millions of people they despise. That includes you and yours.

In what world do you think you will be safe from them? The first time you call them a racist or you don’t show up for dinner because you had an argument, what’s going to keep them from turning you in? Their humanity? Their compassion? Their conscience?

These are long gone. They either never had them or they purged them in their rush to be accepted into the cult of MAGA. These are the people who saw children being torn from their mothers and tortured and lustily cheered. These are the people who saw the cops shooting unarmed protesters and demanded more violence. These are the people who watched violent terrorists attack the Capitol and demanded to know why they didn’t finish the job.

They. Hate. This. Country. They hate you. If Trump and his band of theocratic fascists achieve their goals, the MAGAts in your life will come to understand that they are free to be the absolute monster they’ve been concealing behind a mask for years and nothing will stop them from throwing you to the wolves. Because they hate you and everything you believe in.

This will not begin in January. These kinds of changes take time unless they engineer their own 9/11 or Reichstag Fire. It’s important to remember that within months of 9/11, weeks, really, all criticism of George W. Bush and the Republican Party was deemed treasonous by the right. The right-wing media outside of AM Hate Radio barely existed at the time but the legacy press was more than happy to take up the cause. They buried the largest anti-war protest in history and promoted every lie the Bush regime told, pushing a toxic patriotism that still poisons the country today. They were collaborators. And they will be again.

Now the right’s propaganda machine is infinitely more powerful and the legacy media is more willing than ever. It will be very easy for the coming state media to declare this group or that group literal “enemies of the state.” Eventually, you will be in that group and your MAGA relatives will be oh so very sorry to turn you in but it’s for the good of the nation.

To protect yourself, you need to excise these future collaborators from your life. Completely. They cannot snitch if they do not know. Walk away from them now. Punishing them is not the point although I can’t say that’s not a happy byproduct. Watching MAGAs burst into tears online because they’re being ostracized is like cocaine for my soul. Give me more, goddammit! But, again, that’s not really the point.

These people are a cancer. They cannot help but destroy everything around them and they’re going to become even more malignant as the Trump regime begins its reign of terror. They’re going to see their darkest fantasies play out and they will, in turn, become the blank-eyed creatures who watched the cattle cars take millions of people to their deaths, feeling nothing because they’re no longer human.

These people are gone. They cannot be saved. They had a choice and they chose the path to Dachau again and again and again. Now you need to make the choice to protect yourself. You cannot resist if a collaborator is in your life, ready to turn you in at a moment’s notice. Walk away. Hold them accountable for their evil when this is over.

The holidays are a time for family and friends. These…things have abandoned the meaning of the word by explicitly voting to harm you. Let them spend this holiday and every holiday going forward with their fellow soulless monsters. You deserve to be among those whom you can trust to protect you. Trump voters are an existential threat. Treat them accordingly.
