The "one time I got passed over for a promotion because I'm male" irritates out of me. Oh, one time you had to endure what most professional women deal with regularly? Cry me a f*ckin river. Last I checked, there were fewer women heading Fortune 500 companies than men named John.
And yet workplace discrimination is such a small percentage of what we deal with. So these guys have to deal with the analogy to one of the relatively minor downsides to being female one time, and it scars them for life, judging by how often I hear it.
Probably, but one of the funniest lines from a movie I ever heard was "Can't trust something that bleeds for 7 days and doesn't die." Extremely sexist but very funny.
Hm, which is weird because I trust people with that kind of fortitude much more highly. They know more about suffering and are less quick to visit it upon others in my experience.
Agree with every single thing you said and would only affect this- does anyone actually believe that man when he says he didn’t get the promotion because the company chose a less competent woman!?!?
I mean….c’mon!!! This reeks of Entitlement. If a minority gets into college and white man doesn’t- it’s clearly affirmative action oppressing white men. If a woman gets a promotion instead of a man- it’s everything from “affirmative action”, “optics” or my personal favorite 🙄 she fucked her way to a promotion.
What it never is- white cis men admitting that they’re offended that being a white cis man didn’t automatically make them the better choice. It’s ridiculous
Also, white men who are doing this kind of complaining are the ones most adamantly denying that they have been the beneficiaries of REVERSE Affirmative Action in this country for close to 300 years.
Had a coworker who opted to go to 3rd shift because, as the only white male Jesus freak on that shift, he would of course automatically become lead. Except that they promoted a (much more experienced) Black woman instead, and they wouldn't let him transfer back to 1st since he was so very enthusiastic about going to 3rd. He bitched for years.
He was also so obnoxious to his shift mates that I (2nd shift) hid an Annoy-A-Tron set to "cricket" in his desk, and he never did find it...
Omg, yes! I pranked an old boss with an annoy-a-tron! I liked him. He liked playing pranks on others, but he also appreciated if someone could pull off a good prank on him. He thought someone had planted a bug and it was emitting a dying battery warning. He tore his office apart looking for it for four days before I told him what it was and where. Pranked him so good that he borderline hated it. It's a great pranking device!
You are understating the proportion of women who are assaulted. The real number is about half. More women report assaults than they did when I was young, but the actual number still FAR more than the reported number.
Why? Because after reporting an assault, we are assaulted again, by the officer who takes the report. Then again by the officer or nurse or whoever takes the physical evidence. Then again by the attorney who represents us. And yet again by the opposing attorney and judge and witnesses.... IF it ever gets that far. And that's assuming even one of these people cared at all about the victim.
Why? Because the system for reporting and prosecution are set up and maintained and PROTECTED by - men. Old white men. Who want to keep the power structure the way it is.
It's a little ironic that I've actually chased a young bear off my porch, where it was opportunistically eating our dogs' food (my dogs were hiding around back, waiting for Mom to help them; hilarious!) I would never EVER consider running a man off, unless I had a gun. EVER. With a young bear, just trying to get a quick easy meal, I could predict that it wouldn't put up a fight; too much other food around, too easily available.
I could never predict that a man showing up at my house would be that amenable.
Sooo true! Let's imagine if you were a kid and how intimidating that would be!! We need to get rid of the statute of limitations on rape, there should be none! Rape should be treated like murder.
We keep hearing “we should let the states decide” about the availability of abortion. Hmmm. Would men want to “let the states decide” if men should be required to become septic before they receive timely medical care? (Aside: I know. I know. What a stupid question.)
For example, after experiencing symptoms for several hours, my husband woke me up to take him to the emergency room, where he was given tests and diagnosed with appendicitis. The qualified doctors told him his appendix must be removed. The doctors prepared him for surgery and removed his appendix, promptly. There was never any mention of waiting until he became sick enough to warrant an operation. He wasn’t forced to wait for his appendix to burst (to be sure he wasn’t faking and to be sure he really, really needed medical care to protect his health). The qualified medical personnel knew what to do and they did it, no delay. Of course, the doctors weren’t under threat of being thrown in prison or losing their medical license when they treated my husband. And my husband wasn’t carrying a fetus. I get it.
But wait, you say, a pregnant woman must consider her unborn child and men don’t give birth! You may be surprised, but I know this. I submit my husband’s medical emergency was no different than thousands of pregnant women with a fetus that is dead or dying — there was no possibility of my husband giving birth, neither would these women. (BTW, not that it matters, but the women I’m referring to wanted to be pregnant, some even underwent the expense and trauma of IVF, but I digress.)
The doctors knew my husband’s appendix could burst and kill him, in the stories we’ve all heard about women in miscarriage, the doctors knew the women’s lives were at risk — no baby would result for my husband, no baby would result for the women. The doctors have seen these symptoms before. It wasn’t their first rodeo. They knew what to do, but the law denied the women standard medical care (an abortion) and threatened criminal action against the doctors if they acted too soon. I don’t blame the doctors. (Trump did this.)
So tell me again why do the states get to decide whether pregnant women should be allowed medical care and men get a free pass — even when no baby will result no matter what?
And what about their vasectomies? aren't they, in the eyes of these christian politicians killing chances for more children to be born?? killing spersupermarket.... hmmm I believe we should debate it!! 😉
Here’s a thought — I’ll put it delicately. An egg and a sperm are the main ingredients for making a baby. When a man has a thought and acts on it, alone, he waste millions of sperm. Isn’t he killing millions of half humans? Just a thought.
“Protect them from…who? Bears? Wolves? Rampaging gorillas? The answer, of course, is other men. But we’re not supposed to talk about that.”
That’s THE question that should be put to every one of the men who expresses any confusion or butt hurt over women choosing the bear.
They will absolutely dodge and try not to answer by changing the question because THEY DO KNOW THE ANSWER. So don’t let them get away with it. Hammer them until they do answer “Protect them from what?”
It's also obvious in the way they only hold women responsible for pregnancies like they've completely forgotten that we can't get pregnant by ourselves why aren't they ever held responsible for these embryos?????!🧐
When I was in high school, the question was "would you rather be raped or shot (killed)", probably the brainchild of a teenaged boy or unimaginative man. Boys thought that women would/should choose rape, because to them, nothing could be worse than death. But some things are. The fact that a lot of men still don't understand that, still think that rape is just a different kind of sex, is what makes that hypothetical man in the woods so dangerous.
In my younger days I spent a lot of time in the woods. I was prepared to deal with bears, took all the necessary precautions, and saw a bear or two for a moment, but never felt threatened by one.
Now when it comes to men, three times I've had to defend myself with force against a would-be racist. I joke that two more and I'm an ace, but behind the bravado of that joke are memories of desperate efforts, of fear, of falling apart emotionally once the deed was done. And when it comes to sexual harassment, I can't even begin to count the instances.
How encouraging to read this from a man…thank you for sharing your understanding. I hope I would feel very protected with you alone in an elevator, and my experience is that most large guys are very kind and sensitive.
Your footnote 2 ("Republicans have an awful lot of ways to describe rape so they don’t have to admit that it’s rape") gets way less attention than it should. During the "if it's a legitimate rape, a woman's body has ways to shut that down, so you don't need abortion ban exceptions for rape", I read enough to dig down to the "if she got pregnant, she must have enjoyed it/orgasmed, and that's why her body didn't shut that down" layer. At that point, I stopped digging, so I can can only imagine how much lower the swamp goes.
Thanks for sharing this new bit of oppressed white men. You stated everything so well. How refreshing to hear a man that understands. In regards to the woman with a fetus has no rights. They are trying to get abortion pills birth control illegal. And the damn Comstock Act, oh no this is porn, can't mail it. Well, then all those male happy pills like Viagra shouldn't be mailed either. Our VP asked the male supreme Court nominees when she was on the judicial committee if there were any laws that controlled men's bodies or health . No answer. I'd take a bear and I'm a suburb girl. I'd do what I do with a snake that's not close to me - Mr/Miss bear, l will back away slowly and let you live your best bear life and I'll go live my best life. Thank you Mr. Ogre, I love your stuff!
Gee thanks Ogre, you successfully popped my bliss bubble. I had not heard man v bear but had seen some of the comments. Hell, as a full grown old man who is out walking around in woods I would take the bear too. Bears kind of have a code of honor. If not eating their food, bothering my cubs, in my den or in my way, I am not going to bother you and will probably run away.
As a guy, if I were in this hypothetical situation, and a woman chose a bear over me in the woods, I would completely understand, and my feelings wouldn't even been hurt.
Reading the comments you included, I imagine that these are the men running up to trump, with tears in their eyes, during a "sir, sir" story.
Well, the moral of the story is women should carry bear spray and give these overgrown toddlers something to REALLY cry about
Ya like celibacy!😉
I love it 🤣🤣🤣
LOL--this comment made my day.

If men had to bleed every month they'd stop being such sissies.
Your mileage may vary!
If men had to bleed every month, they would insist on having one week off, paid, every month.

I completely concur. I was a kid, 17. Not nearly as young as sooo many others!
It's a terrible, violent crime that has very little possibility of repercussions for the perpetrator.
Yep.

Excellent comparison. I'm going to use this next time I get into a serious debate with someone. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome.

Yes! That movie was actually great in so many ways!

“It’s brutal and demands brutality from us in return”
IOW, look what you made me do.
More men whining about how they have no control over their own actions and how that’s not their fault.
Incel Oswald has a permanent owie.

Gimme the bear. Every time.
I can count the number of male friends I've ever had on one hand. And most of them had ulterior motives for the friendship.

I have been harassed and assaulted because the guy didn’t get it when I said NO. No means stop what you’re doing and back away.
Haven’t you heard? “No” means no only when a man says it.
Silly me.
Your footnote 2 ("Republicans have an awful lot of ways to describe rape so they don’t have to admit that it’s rape") gets way less attention than it should. When that all happened, that's when I learned that a woman can actually climax during rape and that it has nothing to do with enjoying it.
